Esmeralda Roots was founded on December 25, 2025, in Los Angeles, California, by Carlos Yair Torres Lopez. Born in 1990 and raised in Puebla, Mexico, Carlos later built his life in Los Angeles—an experience that deeply shaped his identity, values, and commitment to community service.

The name Esmeralda Roots carries deep personal meaning. Esmeralda is the name of Carlos’s mother, the most precious person in his life, and Roots represents the foundation on which he was raised. As a proud Brown/Mexican community leader, Carlos believes in the responsibility to speak up, stand for justice, and fight for what is right.

Carlos firmly believes that food is a universal language—one that transcends borders, cultures, and differences. It is something humanity shares without discrimination, without racism, and without division. Food brings people together and creates moments of dignity, connection, and happiness.

Esmeralda Roots is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing highly valuable, healthy, and fresh meals to people in need during times of hardship, disaster, or crisis. With dedication and passion, the organization strives to break traditional barriers, inspire and educate future leaders, and bring communities together during difficult times.

Our vision is guided by one shared goal: “Make People Great Again.” Fuck ICE, Fuck Trump. Together, as one team, we work to change systems rooted in inequality, stand against racism, hate, and division, and instead serve our communities—one plate at a time—creating more smiles and stronger connections along the way.

Sincerely,
Carlos Yair Torres Lopez
